Ramesh spends 500 rupees on buying 12 tables and chairs. The cost of one table is 50 rupees and that of one chair is 40 rupees. What is the ratio of the number of tables and chairs purchased by Ramesh? Correct Answer 1 : 5
Let the number of tables purchased by Ramesh be 'x'
Then, number of chairs purchased by Ramesh = (12 - x)
50x + 40(12 - x) = 500
50x - 40x = 500 - 480
10x = 20
x = 2
So, number of tables = 2 and number of chairs = 10
Hence, 1:5 is the ratio of the number of tables and chairs purchased by Ramesh.
