Pipe A along with a hole can fill a tank in 20 minutes, pipe B along with hole can fill that tank in 1 hour. If both the pipes along with hole can fill that tank in (60/7) minutes, then what is the time taken by hole alone to empty that tank completely?

Pipe A along with a hole can fill a tank in 20 minutes, pipe B along with hole can fill that tank in 1 hour. If both the pipes along with hole can fill that tank in (60/7) minutes, then what is the time taken by hole alone to empty that tank completely? Correct Answer 20 minutes

Let the time taken by pipe A and B alone to fill the tank be A and B respectively.

Let the time taken by hole alone to empty the tank be H.

According to the question∶

(1/A) - (1/H) = (1/20)      ----(1)

(1/B) - (1/H) = (1/60)       ----(2)

(1/A) + (1/B) - (1/H) = (7/60)       ----(3)

From (1) and (3)∶

(1/B) + (1/20) = (7/60)

B = 15 minutes

From equation (2)∶

(1/15) - (1/H) = (1/60)

(1/H) = (1/15) - (1/60)

H = 20 minutes
