The average of 6 six consecutive odd numbers is = 36
Let the first number be x, then
x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 + x + 8 + x + 10 = 36 × 6
⇒ 6x + 30 = 216
⇒ 6x = 216 - 30
⇒ 6x = 186
⇒ x = 186/6
⇒ x = 31
So, the next four numbers are (x + 12), (x + 14), (x + 16) and (x + 18).
The next four numbers are 43, 45, 47 and 49.
Sum of 10 consecutive odd numbers = 216 + 43 + 45 + 47 + 49 = 400
Average of 10 consecutive odd numbers = 400/10 = 40
Short Trick:
Average of 6 consecutive odd numbers = 36
If next four consecutive odd numbers included, then average of 10 consecutive odd numbers = 36 + 4 = 40
