Sheela is walking across a circular playground. She takes 5 min more if she walks around the entire playground than if she walks around half of the playground and then reaches the initial position by walking straight to diametrically opposite side. If she walks 30 meters in a minute, then what is the diameter of the playground?

Sheela is walking across a circular playground. She takes 5 min more if she walks around the entire playground than if she walks around half of the playground and then reaches the initial position by walking straight to diametrically opposite side. If she walks 30 meters in a minute, then what is the diameter of the playground? Correct Answer 264

Let the radius of the playground be r

We know that

The perimeter of circular ground = 2πr

Perimeter of semicircular ground = πr + 2r

Distance covered by Sheela in 5 min = 30 × 5 = 150 m

According to the question

2πr - ( πr + 2r) = 150

⇒ πr - 2r = 150

⇒ r (π - 2) = 150

⇒ r (3.14 - 2) = 150

⇒ r ≈  132

∴ Diameter = 2 × 132 = 264 m
