Lumbar discography: an interventional diagnostic imaging test used to help identify the source of back pain in patients who have not responded to non-surgical treatments. Using X-ray guidance, contrast dye is injected into the center of one or more spinal discs, which can temporarily reproduce back pain symptoms and help diagnose if a particular disc is causing back pain. Lumbar discography may be indicated in patients with disabling lower back pain, groin pain, hip pain, and/or leg pain.
