Once the lifeline of Sylhet, the Surma river has turned now into a narrow canal. Around 200 wide chars have appeared in the river from Zakiganj to Bhairab. Most of the river dries up during the dry season. Waste products from home and factories around the river are dumped into it indiscriminately.
