Preparation for Semen Analysis
The preparation for a semen analysis is simple. You will need to abstain from ejaculation for two to seven days prior to the test. This is so that the semen sample has a higher concentration of sperm, which will help with obtaining more accurate results. Additionally, men should avoid alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, and any drugs or medications that can affect sperm production or ejaculation for at least three days prior to the test.
Procedure for Semen Analysis
The procedure for a semen analysis is very simple. You will be asked to provide a specimen usually in a private room. You may be given a specimen cup or you may be asked to masturbate into the cup provided. The semen sample is then placed into a machine and a variety of tests are performed in order to measure the quantity and quality of the semen.
Types of Semen Analysis
There are a variety of semen analysis tests that can be performed. These include physical exams to check for abnormalities in the semen quality, a semen analysis to measure the concentration of sperm and other components in the semen, and a motility test to measure the movement of the sperm.
