1. Kinship ties are connections between individuals, established either through marriage or through the lines of descent that connect blood relatives.

2. The family of birth is called the family of orientation and the family in which a person is married is called a family of procreation. The kin related through blood are termed as consanguinal kin while the kin related through marriage are called affines. Example : Parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, uncle, cousin etc.
