Propertein and Proprotein. Secretory proteins produced o free ribosomes have larger tha normal polypeptide chains that constitute preproteins. It is because of the presence of signal peptides over them. When the signal peptide is removed, a preprotein generally produces protein precursor called proprotein, e.g., proalbumin pronusulin. Proprotein is further cleaved or transformed into useful protein e.g., albumin from proalbmin or insulin from proinsulin.
