Both the ions can act as base by donating the lone pair of electron on the oxgen atom present in the ionic species. As in alkoxide ion O atom is linked with electron releasing alkyl group, the enhanced electron density on O atom due to +I effect of alkyl group makes it more basic than -OH ion.
