Sheela went to the garden and saw that some flowers of a plant were not open but they were closed. She thought that these flowers must be in their bud stage and will open after some time. But she was surprised to see that all the flowers of that plant were closed and move of them opened. She was at a loss to understand it and therefore asked her teacher about it. Answer the following questions :

(i) Yes, there are plants which bear flowers and never open i.e., remain always closed. e.g., Oxalis, Commelina, Arachis hypogaea (Groundnut), etc.
(ii) Such flowers are called as Cleistogamous flowers.
(iii) Such flowers undergo self-pollination (autogamy). In such flowers, anther and stigma lie close to each other. When the anther dehisces the pollen grains come in contact with stigma and pollination takes place.
(iv) Values exhibited
Sheela is quite active, lively in her life and is very observant, curious, enquiring and inquisitive about nature and her surroundings.
