Plastic bags are non-biodegradable wastes' they are not degraded, they begin to stink' emitting foul gases, spoil the beauty of places and contaminate soil, water, and air with toxins. Cloth bags are used instead of plastic bags because they are stronger, more durable and washable.
polythene is a non-biodegradable substance and can't be broken into the simpler substance by the microorganisms. It remains as such in the environment. It is poisonous and is harmful for the animals when eaten by them, as they blocks the alimentary canal of the animals. Polythene is equally harmful to environment also. These are the major reason for blocking of sewage.
The two alternatives to the polythene bags are as follows:
(i) Plastic bags are non-biodegradable and, therefore, require dumping sites.
(ii) Plastic bags when dumped into ground damage soil.
Alternatives : Use jute bag or bag made-up of cotton.
