Agriculture and farming was their main occupations. The cow was considered very valuable and was mark of wealth. The trade was done by land and sea route. Barter system was in practice. The main industries were of goldsmiths, carpenters, blacksmiths, weavers, potters, leathers and physicians.
The main occupations of the Aryans were:
1. Agriculture was their main occupation. They used plough to till the land. Irrigation was done by rivers, waterfalls, canals, wells, etc.
2. Cattle rearing was a useful occupation. The Aryans considered the cow as sacred and it was not to be slaughtered, and was considered as the pivot of economic prosperity. Their other prominent domestic animals were elephants, horses, buffaloes, deer, sheep, goats and donkeys.
3. People do wood, metal, gold, cloth and leather work.
