Examine the salient features of the Constitution of India with reference to the following: (a) Universal Adult Franchise

(a) Universal Adult Franchise:

Our constitution is based on the principle of Universal (Adult) Franchise. It gives voting right to every person whether male or female. He/she is eligible to cast vote to elect the government. He/she must be a citizen of India, is not less than 18 years of age and is not otherwise disqualified under any law. 

(b) Single Citizenship

The Constitution of India believes in the Single Citizenship. That means a person who belongs to India, is liable to take hold of Single Citizenship no matter in which State he/she resides. Single Citizenship allows a citizen to entertain the rights and laws of the country. However, in America, dual citizenship is prevalent.
