What is the author’s indirect comment on subjecting innocent animals to the willfulness of human beings?

Through this satirical story the author has rightly portrayed how human beings have subjected innocent animals to untold torture and death, merely to fulfill their own whims and fancies. The maharaja’s indiscriminate killing of tigers led to their extinction in some states, but the maharaja was oblivious to the grave consequences his action was leading to. In order to prove an astrologer wrong the maharaja went on a killing spree proving his dominance over the hapless animals.He wished to show his superiority as a human being and exercised his power to kill hundred unlucky tigers.

In the story ‘The Tiger King’, we see innocent tigers being killed at the whim of a king. Just to prove the prediction of the astrologers wrong, the proud king does so. The story is told in a humorous tone. The author is nowhere seen preaching against the killing of animals. But indirectly, he seems to have sympathy for the innocent animals who are subjected to the willfulness of human beings. He seems to comment that a killer of innocent animals is never spared by nature. The death of the king caused by a wooden tiger seems to be a revenge for his heartless act of killing tigers. It looks to be a lesson for those who are cruel to innocent animals and treat them at their will.

‘व्याघ्र राजा’ नामक इस कहानी में हम निर्दोष व्याघ्रों को किसी राजा की सनक का शिकार बनते हुए देखते हैं। सिर्फ भविष्यवक्ताओं की भविष्यवाणी को गलत सिद्ध करने के लिए वह अहंकारी राजा ऐसा करता है। यह कहानी हास्य उत्पन्न करने वाले लहजे में कही गई है। लेखक कहीं भी जानवरों की हत्या के विरोध में उपदेश देता हुआ दिखाई नहीं देता है। लेकिन अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से वह उन निर्दोष जानवरों के प्रति सहानुभूति रखता हुआ प्रतीत होता है जिन्हें मनुष्य अपनी मनमर्जी का शिकार बनाते हैं। वह यह टिप्पणी करता हुआ प्रतीत होता है, कि निर्दोष जानवरों को मारने वाले को प्रकृति कभी नहीं बख्शती है। लकड़ी के एक व्याघ्र द्वारा राजा की मृत्यु उसके व्याघ्रों को मारने के निर्दयी कार्य को बदला प्रतीत होती है। यह उन लोगों के लिए एक सीख प्रतीत होती है जो निर्दोष जानवरों के साथ मनमर्जी का व्यवहार करते हैं।
