We know that distance of geostationary satellite from the surface of earth is 36000 km.

The radius of earth is 6400km.

Therefore, distance of geostationary satellite from the centre of earth = 36000+6400=42400km

Therefore, 6400xD = 42400

or, D = 42400/6400 = 6.6R

or, D = 7R
