Generally, saturated carbons give blue flame and unsaturated carbons give yellow sooty flame.
Example:
C2H4 has the structural formula as CnH2n. This means that C2H4 is ethene(Alkene-unsaturated hydrocarbon). But C2H6 has the formula as CnH2n+2, this means it is ethane(Alkane- saturated hydrocarbon).
Saturated hydrocarbons(alkane) burns with a clean blue flame but unsaturated hydrocarbon(alkene and alkyne) burns with a yellow sooty flame.
