Segmented body in annelids, while true segmentation is absent in arthropods. Arthropods have joined appendages, which are absent in annelids.
Annelid animals have a true body cavity. There is thus extensive organ differentiation. This differentiation occurs in a segmental fashion, with the segments lined up on after the other from head to tail. These are bilaterally symmetrical and triploblastic. In this way annelid animals differ from arthropods.
The differences between the members of Annelida and arthropods are:
| ANNELIDA | ARTHROPODA | ||
| 1. | No distinct head present | 1. | Body divided into head,thorax, and abdomen |
| 2. | Exoskeleton is absent | 2. | Chitinous exoskeleton present |
In anneldia, the animals are segmented both exterually as well as internally. In arthropoda, the animals are segmentd exterually but not separated internally by septa.
