What is cardiac output?

Cardiac Output = stroke volume x heart rate. It is 5 to 6 litres at basal level. In untrained person, it can go upto 20 litres and in trained athletes it can go upto 40 litres.

Cardiac output is the amount of blood pumped by the heart in one minute. It is measured in litre/minute. Cardiac output is a product of stroke volume and heart rate. If either heart rate or stroke volume increases or both, the cardiac output increases also. 

It is volume of blood ejected out from the heart (ventricles) over one minute. Cardiac output is the product of the stroke volume and the heart rate/ minute.

CO = SV x HR 70 x 72 = 5040 ml.

The cardiac output is influenced by several factors like heart rate, contractility of the heart etc.
