Solution: Here; h = 24 m, p = 18 m and b = ?

From Pythagoras theorem;

b2 = h2 – p2

Or, b2 = 242 – 182

= 576 – 324 = 252

Or, b = √252 = 6√7 m

Let OB be the pole and AB be the wire.

AB2 = OB+ OA2

242 = 182 + OA2

OA2 = 576 - 324

OA2 = 252

AO = \(\sqrt{252}\)

AO = 6\(\sqrt7\)m

Distance from base = 6\(\sqrt7\) m
