Attacks on civilians
The conflict between the Russian and Ukrainian churches is a set of hostile actions of the Russian Orthodox Church and its branch in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church directed against the state of Ukraine. It is a part of historical attempts of Russia to suppress the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and make it a subdivision of Moscow Orthodox Church that begun in 1686, when the Moscow Patriarch received from Patriarch Dionysius IV of Constantinople the right to temporarily ordain the Metropolitan of Kyiv.
