The side-by-side , also called a utility task vehicle or recreational off-highway vehicle , is a small, 1-6 person four-wheel drive off-road vehicle. Such vehicles have powertrains similar to those of ATVs and have much of their rugged-terrain capability, but the term "all-terrain vehicle" is conventionally restricted to four-wheel, straddle-seat vehicles, such that the ability of multiple users to sit next to each other lends a distinguishing name to side-by-sides.
