In historical Arabic, Persian and Turkish literature the term Dagestan Turks, as well as Dagestani Tatars in Russian chronicles, or Circassian Tatars, most often refer to Kumyks. In some works of more distant chronicle article can also refer to Nogais or Southern Dagestani Azeris.
