The majority of Pakistani names are derived from Arabic, Persian, and Turkic names. As most Pakistanis are Muslims, all of them use either Arabic, Persian or Turkic names. In Pakistan, as in other Muslim countries, the use of family names is not as prominent as in Western countries. Tribal and family names are also widely used.
