Option 4 : Changing the line everyday

Concept:

  • IV -> Intravenous is a route of administration of medicine
  • In this route the medicine will be given directly into the vein
  • The fastest route of drug administration
  • Only very few medicine can be given directly through veins all medicines cannot be given

Explanation:

  • Central venous catheter = Central line.
  • Larger veins of neck like subclavian vein is catheterized in order to administer large amount of fluids sooner.
  • The line is fixed in position and is not needed to change everyday
  • Even a simple intarcath is not needed to change on daily basis.
  • While performing IV cannulation the following measures should be taken
    • Done only under doctor prescription
    • Hand washing must be done
    • Skin must be prepared at the site of insertion
    • Prior site must be selected
  • Intravenous drug administration has 100 percent bioavailability
