Option 1 : Child labour and class inequalities
According to NCF-2005 objectives of teaching EVS at the primary level is to develop an awareness about environmental issues and to nurture the curiosity and creativity of the child, particularly about the natural environment. Child labor and class inequalities are dealt with in the curriculum as:
- These are closely related to children and their daily life.
- When these issues will be addressed students know the importance of education in their daily life.
- Students may refuse if their parents or somebody suggest they stop education and start working for money.
- Students will understand the inequalities and reflect on the issue and become a caretaker of discriminated children.
- Children may act on the issues when they grow up and try to minimize the issues in the country.
Hence Child labor and class inequalities are dealt with in the curriculum.
On the other hand caste discrimination, the dowry system, and domestic violence are not related to children and it is too early for the children to be aware of these issues so these are not discussed in the curriculum.
