Option 1 : A
Concept :
Pressure
- It is the amount of force that is exerted on the surface.
- Gravity causes pressure naturally.
- Water pressure is the force created by the weight of water.
- Water pressure can push water through pipes and hoses.
The formula for water pressure is :
Water pressure= p g h
- p = density of water in kg.m-3
- g = gravitational force in 9.81 m.s-2
- h = height in m
- SI unit of pressure is Pascal (Pa)
Explanation :
- In the four glass cylinders A, B, C, D we observe that :
- The stream coming out from cylinder D i.e.12 cm hole land nearest to the cylinder.
- The stream coming out from cylinder A i.e. 5 cm hole land farthest to the cylinder.
This phenomenon is created by different water pressure at each hole.
- Water pressure is the force applied from the water above to the water below.
- Because this force comes from the weight of the water, the water at the bottom receives the most water pressure.
- High water pressure pushes the water out through the hole the strongest and therefore the stream shoots the farthest.
