Concept:
- Episiotomy is an incision given to the perineal layers during time of delivery
- Episiotomy will increase the space for the delivery of fetus
- This is the most common process done by the midwifes and gynecologists during normal delivery
- Episiotomy can be given in
- Medial and
- Mediolateral
- Episiotomy tear can be of different degrees based on the depth of incision
- 1st degree tear -> vaginal mucosal tear
- 2nd degree tear-> perineal mucus tear
- 3rd degree tear-> Anal sphincter tear
- 4th degree tear-> Rectum tear
- It takes 3 weeks for a episiotomy to get heal
- Regularly the site must be cleaned with antiseptic solution to prevent infection
- Vaccum delivery is also another way of conducting labor which is termed as assisted deliveries
- In this vaccum delivery a suction vaccum is used to pull the head of the fetus
- Forcep delivery is another assisted delivery where the forceps are used to pull the head of the fetus
