Option 2 : Application

Bloom's Taxonomy: This model is proposed in 1956 and named after Benjamin Bloom, an educational psychologist at the University of Chicago. This is actually a hierarchy model to classify the teaching and instructional objectives into a specific level of complexity. According to Bloom's taxonomy of knowledge, there are three major domains of learning:

  • Cognitive domain
  • Affective domain
  • Psychomotor domain

Cognitive domains: In this domain, a child deals with knowledge and hence, learns to create, evaluate, analyze, apply, understand, and remember.

Here, in this question, the teacher is assessing the question 'students will be able to use the information to establish criteria to make a judgement or support an opinion''. In this, the application process is represented. Here, the students after having knowledge of the concepts, apply the information that comes under the application process.

  • This is the third stage in the hierarchical order in the cognitive domain.
  • At this level, the students should be able to use the knowledge or understanding of facts and principles in new situations.
  • In other words, the students should be able to use or relate the knowledge gained (ideas, procedures, principles, or theory) in solving new problems.

Thus, it is concluded that the application cognitive process is represented in the above-mentioned statement.

 Subdomains of Cognitive Domain:

  • Knowledge: It refers to the process of recognizing and recalling information.
  • Understanding: It refers to the process of interpreting and assimilating information.
  • Application: It refers to the process of utilizing information in new and different situations.
  • Analysis: It refers to the process of identifying the pattern and connection among the given information
  • Synthesis: It refers to the process of combining information and making connections among them to generate a new idea.
  • Evaluation: It refers to the process of making judgments and Justifying decisions about the value of information and materials.
