Option 1 : Clostridium botulinum
Concept:
- In bacteriology gram positive are the bacteria which gives positive results on gram staining where as the negative bacteria gives negative results on gram staining
- Gram positive have thick peptidoglycon layer and no outer lipid membrane
- Primary dye used crystal violet.
- Gram negative bacteria will have thin peptidoglycon layer with a outer lipid membrane
- Streptococcus pneumonia, streptococcus mutans, staphylococcus aureus, clostridium where gram positive
- Clostridium botulinum is a gram positive bacteria which produces neurotoxin called botulinum this attacks nerves and causes breathing difficulty.
- Klebsiella pneumonia is gram negative bacteria, it causes pneumonia which manifest with fever, chills, coughing, yellow bloody mucus and chest pain.
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a gram negative bacteria it can cause mild rashes and ear infection in normal individuals but in immune compromised patients it can lead to severe life threatening disesases.
- Acinetobacter baumanni it causes opportunistic infections
