BRICS is the group composed of the five major emerging countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa -, which together represent about 42% of the population, 23% of GDP, 30% of the territory, and 18% of the global trade.
- The first BRIC summit (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) happened in 2009, in Russia, in the city of Yekaterinburg. The summit opened the cooperation at the level of Heads of State and Government.
- In 2011, after the entry of South Africa, the "S" was added to the acronym and the grouping became known as BRICS.

Note: 12th BRICS Summit was planned to be hosted by Saint Petersburg, Russia (21–23 July 2020) but due to COVID-19 it has been postponed.
Hence, we can clearly infer that China hosted the BRICS National Security Advisors Meeting in 2017.
