Let the of ratio of boys and girls be k ∶ 1

⇒ Total number of students selected for internship = (k + 1)

Total stipend paid to all the students = 4000 × (k + 1) = 4000k + 4000

Total stipend paid to boys and girls = (4500 × k) + (1 × 3800) = 4500k + 3800

The above two expressions are equal as both of them give total stipend paid

⇒ 4500k + 3800 = 4000k + 4000

⇒ 4500k – 4000k = 4000 – 3800

⇒ 500k = 200

⇒ k = 200/500 = 2/5

⇒ k ∶ 1 = (2/5) ∶ 1 = 2 ∶ 5
