Option 1 : Closed end

CONCEPT:

Organ pipes:

  • Organ pipes are the musical instruments that are used for producing musical sound by blowing air into the pipe.
  • Longitudinal stationary waves are formed on account of the superimposition of the incident and reflected longitudinal waves through the air in the pipe.
  • Organ pipes are of two types:
  1. Closed organ pipes, which are closed at one end and open at the other.
  2. Open organ pipes, which are open at both ends.

EXPLANATION:

  • In air columns or strings, we get two points of different amplitudes.
  • The maximum amplitude point is an antinode while the minimum amplitude point is a node.
  • In the case of an air column where one end is closed and other is opened, the pressure is maximum in the closed end.
  • The open end due to its openness cannot create pressure zone therefore we get antinode or maximum pressure at the closed end. Therefore option 1 is correct.
