Option 4 : stratosphere

Our atmosphere is divided into five layers starting from the earth’s surface;

  1. Troposphere: Average height is 13 km. The air we breathe exists here. Almost all the weather phenomena like cloud, rainfall, fog and hailstorm occur in this layer.
  2. Stratosphere: up to an altitude of 50 km from the earth’s surface. Almost free from clouds, most ideal for flying aeroplanes, Contains a layer of ozone gas (Ozonosphere). Temperature increases with height in this layer.
  3. Mesosphere: Up to an altitude of 80 km. Meteorites burn up in this layer on entering from the space. Temperature decreases with height in this layer.
  4. Thermosphere: It extends between 80-400 km. In thermosphere temperature rises very rapidly with increasing height. The ionosphere is a part of this layer. This layer helps in radio transmission. The International Space Station and satellites orbit in this layer. Temperature increases with height in this layer.
  5. Exosphere: The uppermost layer of the atmosphere is known as the exosphere. This layer has very thin air. Light gases like helium and hydrogen float into space from here.
