Explanation:

Two tests are there for toughness test:
i) Charpy Impact test
ii) Izod impact test
Charpy test:
The Charpy geometry consists of a simply supported beam with a centrally applied load on the reverse side of beam from the notch.
The notch serves to create a stress concentration and to produce a constrained multiaxial state of tension a small distance below the bottom of Notch.

Izod test:
The Izod test involves a pendulum impact, but the Izod specimen geometry consists of a cantilever beam with the notch located on the same side as the impact point.
