Option 1 : Binding energy of protons and neutrons is released
In a nucleus, protons and neutrons are present. When they fuse, their combined mass gets reduced and this changes into energy which binds them together, known as binding energy. Amount of this energy is given by the equation E=mc2, where E is the binding energy, m is the reduced mass and c is the speed of light. In an atomic bomb, the nucleus breaks and the binding energy is released. This energy causes the atomic explosion.
