  • The shift from the Wholesale Price Index to the Consumer Price Index for calculating the inflation was recommended by the Urijit Patel Committee.
  • The Inflation using WPI is also calculated but is not considered for the policy target.
  • The CPI allows the calculation of inflation at the end of the consumer, hence it allows the calculation of the factors that are not included in the WPI, like, foods and beverages, tobacco, clothing and footwear, fuel and other items.
