Option 4 : Capacitor-run type
Types of induction motor:
Shaded pole motor: Low starting torque and low power factor
Capacitor start motor: High starting torque, low power factor
Capacitor run motor: Low starting torque, high power factor
Split run motor: Low starting torque and low power factor
Universal motor: High speed, high starting torque, operate on either AC or DC power
Hysteresis motor: Low power factor, low starting torque
PSC (permanent split capacitor) Motor:
The permanent split capacitor motor is similar to a capacitor start motor. But, the auxiliary winding and the capacitor are continuously energized because it is connected permanently. Hence, the centrifugal switch is absent in this case.
Advantages of capacitor run induction or PSC motor:
- A Centrifugal switch is not required.
- It has high efficiency
- It has a high power factor because of a permanently connected capacitor.
- It has a higher pull-out torque
Limitations:
- Electrolytic capacitors cannot be used for continuous running. Therefore, paper-spaced oil-filled capacitors are used.
- It has relatively low starting torque compared to the capacitor start induction motor.
