  • In the Berubari Case in 1960, the Supreme Court declared that the Preamble is not a part of the Constitution. 
  • Later in the Kesavananda Bharati Case in 1973, it held that the Preamble is a part of the Constitution. 
  • The Preamble is now an integral part of the Constitution though it is not enforceable in any court of law. 
  • It has been amended only once in the year 1976 in the 42nd Amendment to the Constitution.
