Option 4 : Extinct in Captivity
The IUCN Red List classifies the animals based on the rate of decline, population size, fragmentation etc. into nine categories. They are:
- Extinct: The species is no longer extant.
- Extinct in the wild: Survives only in captivity.
- Critically Endangered: In an extremely critical state.
- Endangered: High risk of extinction in the wild.
- Vulnerable: Have high-risk of extinction due to human-induced causes.
- Near Threatened: Close to being at high risk of extinction in the near future.
- Least Concerned: Unlikely to become extinct in the near future
