Option 3 : Lignite

  • The secondary stage in the formation of coal, Lignite, is brown in color and is, therefore, called brown coal.
  • With an approximate calorific value of 15 MJ/kg, Lignite serves as a low-grade fuel which is mostly used for domestic use.
  •  Lignite contains about 66 % Carbon, 20 % Oxygen, 5 % Hydrogen, 1 % Nitrogen, and Sulfur each and 3.5 % ash.
  • Peat is the first stage of transformation and that is why it contains more impurities whereas Anthracite is the best coal available with around 90% carbon content in it.
  • Bituminous coal is a soft type of coal and it is the most extensively used coal.
