- Chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs) contain Chlorine. It reacts with ozone as follows: - Cl + O3 → ClO + O2. The important part is O3(ozone) gets converted to O2.(oxygen). CFCs have been phased out. Ozone blocks harmful UV rays from reaching earth. It is present in the stratosphere.
- Montreal Protocol → Agreement among member states to protect the Ozone layer.
- Ozone day is celebrated on September 16th and 2018 was themed "Keep Cool and Carry On".
