Option 3 : Both 1 and 2

The following table gives the difference between Reinforced cement concrete (R.C.C) and Prestress concrete (P.S.C).

Reinforced cement concrete (R.C.C)

Prestress concrete (P.S.C)

In R.C.C the concrete in the compression zone is effective and that in tension zone is ineffective

In P.S.C the concrete is effective in the entire section

R.C.C sections are heavier. They need shear reinforcement besides longitudinal reinforcement

P.S.C sections are lighter compared to R.C.C. curved tendons are provided.

In R.C.C high strength concrete and high strength steel are not required

In P.S.C high strength concrete and high strength steel are provided.

The externally applied moment is resisted by an internal couple formed by steel and concrete.

The lever arm changes with the loading, but the loading conditions and stress in steel remain constant.
