Viticulture or grape cultivation is a speciality of the Mediterranean region. Hence, Statement 1 is correct.
- It represents a very intensive form of farming requiring not only good conditions of moisture, temperature and soil but also much personal care, if the grapes are to be of high quality.
- Grapes raised in different parts of the Mediterranean lands have distinctive flavours and wines made in the various areas maintain their exclusive names.

Plantation crops are usually grown on large estates and are always a monoculture over a large area.
- For example: coffee in Brazil, Tea in India, Rubber in Malaysia, etc.
Plantation crops require heavy rainfall for its growth but stagnant water is injurious to its roots and hence impedes their growth. Hence, Statement 2 is NOT correct.
