Option 3 : Either male or female

The number of males is greater than females. The members are mother, father and children (male and female).

Therefore, the family consists of 4 males (1 father, 3 sons) and 2 females (mother and daughter)

Mahesh (male) is elder than Meenakshi i.e. Mahesh > Meenakshi.

The only male elder than mother will be father. Thus, Mahesh is the father.

Rohan and Ravi are younger than all of the members i.e. _ > _ > _ > _ > Rohan and Ravi

On combining above all,

Mahesh > Meenakshi > Daughter > Son 1 > Rohan and Ravi or

Mahesh > Meenakshi > Son 1 > Daughter > Rohan and Ravi

Either, the daughter or son is the third eldest.

Thus, either male or female is the third eldest.
