The ratio of the length and breadth of a rectangular floor in a hall is 5 : 3. If the perimeter of the floor is 96 m and the cost of per square meter carpet is Rs. 5 then what will be the total expenditure to cover the whole floor of the hall?

The perimeter of the floor is 96 m and the cost of per square meter carpet is Rs. 5 

Concept Used:

Perimeter of rectangle = 2 × (Length + Breadth)

Area = Length × Breadth

Calculation:

Let, the length be 5x and breadth be 3x

Accordingly,

2 × (5x + 3x) = 96

⇒ 16x = 96

⇒ x = 6

Length = 5 × 6 = 30 m

And breadth = 3 × 6 = 18 m

Area of the floor = 30 × 18 = 540 m²

Cost of per square meter carpet is Rs. 5

⇒ Total expenditure to cover the whole floor = 540 × 5

⇒ Rs. 2700

∴ Total expenditure is Rs. 2700.
