74th Constitutional Amendment Act gave constitutional status to Urban Local Bodies in India. This also added part-IX(A) and Twelfth Schedule in the constitution. Act provides for three types of Municipalities in every state (i) Nagar Panchayat for a transitional area, (ii) Municipal Council for smaller urban area, (iii) Municipal Corporation for larger Urban Area.
