Zenoxy Capsule 250 mg

Zenoxy Capsule 250 mg is an antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, including respiratory infections, skin infections, chlamydia, and Lyme disease. It belongs to a class of drugs known as tetracyclines. Zenoxy Capsule 250 mg works by inhibiting protein synthesis, thereby preventing bacteria from producing the proteins they need to grow and proliferate.

Zenoxy Capsule 250 mg is primarily used to treat bacterial infections, such as: respiratory infections, including bronchitis, tonsillitis, and pneumonia; skin infections, including acne, impetigo, and rosacea; gastrointestinal infections, including traveler’s diarrhea; and sexually-transmitted infections, including chlamydia and Lyme disease.

Mechanism of Action

Zenoxy Capsule 250 mg works by binding to the bacterial ribosome, preventing bacterial protein synthesis and thereby inhibiting bacterial growth. This stops the bacteria from multiplying and strengthens the body's natural defense mechanisms to fight infection.

How Long Does It Take to Work?

When taken as directed, oxytetracycline can take effect in as little as one hour. Depending on the severity of the infection and other factors, some people may experience relief of symptoms in as little as one day. However, for the most effective results, it is important to complete the full course of treatment as directed by your doctor.

Absorption

Zenoxy Capsule 250 mg is rapidly absorbed when taken orally, with peak concentrations occurring in about two hours. It is also available in intravenous form.

Route of Elimination

Zenoxy Capsule 250 mg is excreted in urine and feces.

Dosage

Oxytetracycline bolus tablet:
Cattle and Buffalo 50-100 kg-
  • Preventive: ½ caplet
  • Curative: 1 caplet
  • Disease of the respiratory tract and others: 2-4 caplets
Sheep and Goat 10-20 kg
  • Preventive: ½-2/3 caplet
  • Curative: 1 caplet
  • Disease of the respiratory tract and others: 1 caplet
Horse Up to 150 kg
  • Preventive: 1 caplet
  • Curative: 1-1½ caplet
  • Disease of the respiratory tract and others: 2 caplets
Horse Above 150 kg 
  • Preventive: 1½-2 caplets
  • Curative: 2-3 caplet

Oxytetracycline powder:
Treatment: Oxytetracycline powder as 100 mg/kg body weight or 1 gm per 2.5 litre drinking water for 3-5 consecutive days or 50 gm per 100 kg feed for 7 consecutive days.

Prevention/Growth Promotion: Oxytetracycline powder as 50 mg/kg body weight or 1 gm per 5 litre drinking water for 3-5 consecutive days or 35 gm per 100 kg feed for 7-10 consecutive days.

Calves:
  • Treatment: 40 mg Oxytetracycline per kg body weight for 3-5 consecutive days.
  • Prevention/ Growth Promotion: 20 mg Oxytetracycline powder per kg body weight for 7-10 consecutive days.
Fishes: 11 gm-16 gm Oxytetracycline powder per 100 kg fishes.
Honey Bees: 0.5 gm Oxytetracycline powder per colony. Usually 3 dustings are required at 4-5 days interval.

Long-Acting Injectable Solution:
  • Cattle, Buffaloes, Sheep, Goat & Deer: Single dose treatment of 1 ml per 10 kg body weight. (or, 20 mg per kg body weight) by IM route.
  • Poultry & Rabbit: Single dose treatment of 0.25 ml per kg body weight (or, 50 mg per kg body weight) by subcutaneous route. Severe infections may require re-treatment at 3 to 5 days following initial injection. Or, as advised by the veterinary physician

Zenoxy Capsule 250 mg dosage will vary depending on the type of infection being treated. For most infections, the typical adult dose is between 250 to 500 mg taken every twelve hours. Zenoxy Capsule 250 mg may also be prescribed as an intravenous infusion, usually at a rate of 200 mg/day for up to 10 days.

Administration

Zenoxy Capsule 250 mg can be taken orally in capsule or tablet form, or it can be injected intravenously. It should be taken with plenty of fluids to help ensure that it can be absorbed properly.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of oxytetracycline include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Other side effects may include headache, dizziness, skin rash, itching, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, and joint pain. In some cases, oxytetracycline may cause the bacteria it is intended to treat to become resistant to treatment. If you experience any of these side effects, contact your doctor immediately.
