Introduction

Lipicon EZ Tablet 10 mg+10 mg is a combination drug composed of the statin, Atorvastatin, and Ezetimibe, an inhibitor of cholesterol absorption. It is mainly used to reduce LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels in patients with high cholesterol levels who are at an increased risk for cardiovascular disease.

Uses For

Lipicon EZ Tablet 10 mg+10 mg is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications such as heart attack, stroke, and death in patients with high cholesterol levels and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. It is also used to reduce the risk of angina (chest pain) caused by excessive cholesterol levels.

Mechanism of Action

Atorvastatin is a statin that works by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for the production of cholesterol in the liver. Ezetimibe reduces cholesterol levels by reducing cholesterol absorption in the intestines. The combination of the two drugs decreases cholesterol levels more effectively than each drug alone.

How Long Does It Take to Work?

The effects of the Lipicon EZ Tablet 10 mg+10 mg combination drug can usually be seen within 6 to 8 weeks of beginning treatment. However, it may take up to 12 weeks or more to experience the full beneficial effects of the drug.

Absorption

Lipicon EZ Tablet 10 mg+10 mg is well-absorbed in the digestive system. Peak levels of both components are achieved after about 3-4 hours.

Route of Elimination

Lipicon EZ Tablet 10 mg+10 mg is excreted in the urine and feces. Approximately 77% of the excreted drug is eliminated via the urine, and the remaining 23% is eliminated via the feces.

Dosage

The dosage range is 10/10 mg to 80/20 mg daily. The recommended starting dose is 10/10 mg or 20/10 mg daily. This can be administered as a single dose at any time of the day, with or without food. The recommended starting dose for patients who require a larger reduction in LDL-C (greater than 55%) is 40/10 mg daily. After initiation and/or upon titration of this medicine, lipid levels should be analyzed within 2 or more weeks and dosage adjusted accordingly.

Patients with Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia: The dosage in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 40/10 mg or 80/10 mg daily. This should be used as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., LDL apheresis) in these patients or if such treatments are unavailable.

Patients with Hepatic Impairment: This is contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in hepatic transaminase levels.

Patients with Renal Impairment: A history of renal impairment may be a risk factor for statin-associated myopathy. These patients need closer monitoring for skeletal muscle effects. In patients with renal impairment, no dosage adjustment is necessary.

The recommended dose for adults and adolescents (aged 12 and older) is 10–20 mg of Atorvastatin and 10 mg of Ezetimibe daily. The dose should not exceed 40 mg Atorvastatin and 10 mg of Ezetimibe daily. For pediatric patients, the dose should be adjusted based on the patient’s weight.

Administration

Lipicon EZ Tablet 10 mg+10 mg should be taken orally, once daily, and preferably with or shortly after eating. It can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of taking Lipicon EZ Tablet 10 mg+10 mg include dizziness, muscle pain, nausea, headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
