Uses, dosage, side effects, and safety details below apply to HYLO-DUAL Ophthalmic Solution 0.05%+2% (generic: Sodium Hyaluronate + Ectoine). This is general information — consult a doctor before use.

Introduction

Sodium Hyaluronate and Ectoine are combined in various topical formulations primarily for their skin care and protective properties. Sodium Hyaluronate is a salt form of hyaluronic acid, known for its ability to retain moisture and promote skin hydration. Ectoine is a natural molecule with protective and stabilizing effects, commonly used to protect the skin from environmental stressors and enhance cellular function.

Uses

This combination is used in topical products for:

  • Moisturizing and hydrating the skin.
  • Protecting the skin from environmental damage such as pollution and UV radiation.
  • Soothing and reducing inflammation, particularly in sensitive or irritated skin.
  • Improving skin elasticity and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
It is often found in creams, serums, and lotions designed for daily skincare and treatment of dry or compromised skin.

Mechanism of Action

Sodium Hyaluronate works by attracting and retaining water in the skin, providing deep hydration and maintaining skin elasticity. It forms a protective barrier on the skin’s surface, which helps to prevent moisture loss. Ectoine stabilizes cell membranes and protects against environmental stressors, such as oxidative stress and extreme temperatures, by stabilizing proteins and cellular structures.

How Long Does It Take to Work?

Improvement in skin hydration and appearance can typically be noticed within a few days of application. For more significant effects such as reduced inflammation or enhanced skin elasticity, consistent use over several weeks may be required.

Absorption

When applied topically, Sodium Hyaluronate and Ectoine are absorbed into the skin layers, where they exert their effects. Sodium Hyaluronate penetrates into the epidermis and dermis to deliver hydration, while Ectoine remains primarily on the surface, forming a protective barrier.

Route of Elimination

As topical agents, Sodium Hyaluronate and Ectoine do not undergo systemic absorption in significant amounts. They are primarily removed from the skin through natural exfoliation and the skin's own metabolic processes.

Dosage

Generally, adults and children 6 years and older instil one drop of HYLO DUAL three times a day into the conjunctival sac of each eye. If you apply HYLO DUAL more frequently (e.g. more than 10 times per day) or suffer from more severe complaints you should consult an ophthalmologist in regular intervals.

HYLO DUAL can be used while wearing contact lenses. After inserting contact lenses, waiting for about 30 minutes before applying the eye drops is recommended. In this way, you avoid intolerance reactions which may occur due to interactions between lens care products and HYLO DUAL. Based on the available evidence HYLO DUAL may be used in children 6 years and older, and pregnant and breast-feeding women.

HYLO DUAL should not be used if you are hypersensitive to one of the ingredients and in children younger than 6 years.

The dosage of Sodium Hyaluronate and Ectoine varies based on the formulation and intended use. Typically, a thin layer of the product is applied to the affected area once or twice daily. Specific dosages should be followed according to the product instructions or recommendations by a healthcare provider.
